What we could do with a desktop accelerator

I’ve had the chance to read this paper about a “Multi-GeV Electron Bunches from an All-Optical Laser Wakefield Accelerator”. After reading about the mechanism I was immediately taken down the portal of possibilities.

If you blast laser onto plastic you would get some weird kind of water (superionic water) and nano-diamonds. You can then use the lasers and diamonds to build space telescopes for example. You can use the super water to power magnetic field generators which would be able to generate electromagnetic fields which would allow you to separate the broken down material.

Some materials are hard. You can use the diamonds created from the above method to drive high powered lasers which would blast through harder materials. The cycle continues. You would even be able to collect the excess energy and divert again into the main laser.

Obviously, many challenges exist that humanity must overcome. That’s where the fun is.
